Overview
General Testing Information
This most recent Ford Motor Company standard replaces the previous EMC-CS-2009.1. It provides similar requirements both for testing for immunity and emissions on a variety of different criteria. The test plan requirements 20 days prior to testing must be submitted to the FMC EMC department. This is to help determine the correct testing and levels that can be expected where the equipment is planned to be used. If test plan is not received prior to testing results could be invade. This standard breaks out requirements by:
- RE - Radiated Emissions
- RI - Radiated Immunity
- CI - Conducted Immunity
- CE - Conducted Emissions
Requirements
This standard, page 10 table 5-1 provides +/-10% tolerances for time interval length and resistance, capacitance, and inductance. There are a variety of different unique requirements put forth by the standard, making the need for specialized equipment crucial. Common Sections - Conducted Immunity
There are a variety of test solutions available for immunity sections CI 220, CI 221, CI 230, CI 260, CI 280. These cover common transient occurrences, power cycle, voltage dropout, and electrostatic discharge testing (ESD). Given the diverse nature of these criteria there is distinct equipment that is required for each, which can often be rented independently. The transient solutions, especially for the CI 230 and CI 220 are often rented together depending upon pulse requirements.
