Testing Standards

International Electrotechnical Commision (IEC) Standards

IEC promotes standardization in the fields of electricity, electronics and related technologies.

IEC 61000-4-2
Electrostatic discharge (ESD), it requires a 150pf/ 330 ohm discharge network, air discharge tests up to 15kv, contact mode tests up to 8kv. The Keytek MZ-15 by Thermo Fischer Scientific can meet this requirement.

IEC 61000-4-4
Electrical fast transient (EFT), 5/50 nanosecond impulses in bursts with a duration of 15 ms and a period of 300ms with voltages up to 4000 volts as measured into a 50 ohm load. The Keytek EMC-Pro, EMCPro Plus, the Keytek ECAT system with an E411 or E412 module, or the Keytek CEMaster can meet this requirement.

IEC 61000-4-5
Lightning and voltage surges, defined by the combination wave (or bi-wave, it is defined as an open circuit voltage waveform of 1.2/50 microseconds and a short circuit current waveform of 8/20 microseconds, with voltages up to 4000 volts. The Keytek EMC-Pro, the Keytek ECAT system with an E501 or E510 module, or the Keytek CEMaster can meet this requirement.

IEC 61000-4-8
Power frequency magnetic field test, the EMC-Pro and CEMaster can meet this requirement. The H-Coil is also available.

IEC 61000-4-9
Pulse magnetic field test, it has an 8/20 microsecond current waveform. The EMC-Pro and CEMaster can meet this requirement. The H-coil is required and available to rent.

IEC 61000-4-11
AC mains dips and interrupts test, also known as “power quality failure” test. This test requires dips of 40 and 80%, as well as, 0% short and open. The Keytek EMC-Pro, CEMaster, and the ECAT system with the EP62 meet this requirement.

IEC 61000-4-12
Oscillatory ring wave tests at 100khz and 1Mhz. The Mig-OS-OS1 manufactured by EMC Partners will meet this standard.

European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization CENELEC

It issues generic standards for electrical emissions (EN 50081) and electrical immunity (EN 50082). The prefix “EN” indicates that the standard is a “European Norm.”

EN50082-1 & EN50082-2
Generic Immunity Standards which refer to the specific tests: EN 61000-4-2, EN 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-4-8, EN 61000-4-11

ANSI C63.16
American National Standard Guide for Electrostatic Discharge Test Methodologies & Criteria for Electronic Equipment. It is very similar to IEC 61000-4-2, but adds a requirement for furniture tests. The Keytek MZ-15 will meet this standard.

ANSI/IEEE C62.41
uide on Surge Voltages in AC Power Circuits Rated up to 600V. It requires the combination wave and the 100khz ring wave at levels up to 6000 volts, depending on the category of the application. Unlike IEC 61000-4-2, this standard requires surges on 2 lines simultaneously. The Keytek EMC-Pro and ECAT system meet this standard.

Military Standards

Mil std 461
ept. of Defense Interface standard for the control of Electromagnetic interference characteristics of subsystems and equipment. CS114, CS115 and CS116 subsections waveform requirements can be generated by the Solar Electronics 9354 universal transient generator.

Mil std 1399
Interface standard for shipboard systems. The Solar Electronics 7399 system meets this standard.

UL 864
Standard for control units and accessories for fire alarm systems. Requires a 100v/microsecond voltage ramp test to 2400 volts, and a 100khz ring wave test of up to 6000 volts. The Keytek ECAT system with the E513 and E503 modules will perform these tests.

UL 294
Standard for safety access control systems units. Requires a 100v/microsecond voltage ramp test to 2400 volts, and a 100khz ring wave test of up to 6000 volts. The Keytek ECAT system with the E513 and E503 modules will perform these tests.

UL 1034
Standard for burglary resistant electric locking mechanisms. Requires a 100v/microsecond voltage ramp test to 2400 volts, and a 100khz ring wave test of up to 6000 volts. The Keytek ECAT system with the E513 and E503 modules will perform these tests
